UCSB Risk Management and Insurance is responsible for the preservation
of the financial, physical, and human assets of the campus from
loss or destruction. It is our job to identify and evaluate exposures
that put University assets at risk and to assist our customers,
the staff and faculty of UCSB, in selecting the best method of treating
that risk. We are committed to assisting departments in eliminating
or minimizing losses and the effects of losses. We are committed
to excellent customer service, cost efficiency, and to optimizing
the performance of the organization and its employees in support
of the University's mission: research, teaching, and community service.

The Risk Management & Insurance office administers
the University's Risk Management Program at the campus level in
accordance with the directives and general guidelines of the Office
of Risk Management, Office of the President. It is the function
of the office to protect the campus from the risk of unanticipated
loss. Responsibilities include:

Self-Insurance Programs
Manage the University self-insurance programs, including: automobile
physical damage; general, employment, and automobile liability;
medical professional and hospital liability (for the Student Health
Center); property; workers' compensation. |

|
Commercial Insurance
Manage the University's commercial insurance programs, including:
fine arts, aviation, marine, student off-campus coverage, crime,
boiler and pressure vessel, specialty accident insurance programs,
and Special Events Liability Insurance. |

|
Litigation Management
Manage and coordinate the campus's response to lawsuits. |
|
|
Claims Management
Process internal claims and coordinate the handling of all external
claims with the University's third-party claims administrator. |
|
|
Risk Analysis
Make recommendations with respect to campus activities and the
use of facilities by non-University individuals and/or groups.
|
|
|
Contract Review
Work with Contracts and Procurement to resolve insurance and indemnification
issues in leases and agreements with third-party organizations
and vendors.
|
|
|
Policies and Procedures
Interpret and make recommendations with respect to the application
of risk management and insurance policies and procedures. Consult
with and offer guidance to campus departments about risk management
issues.

|
Liaison
Serve as liaison with insurance adjusters, brokers, legal counsel,
the Third Party Claims Administrator (TPA), and the Office of Risk
Management, Office of the President. |

|
Certificates of Insurance
Provide evidence of insurance coverage as required by contract.
|
|
|
Subpoenas
Process all Subpoenas and Authorizations for Release of Information.
|
|
|
Petty Cash/Change Funds
Process all departmental requests. |
