UCSB Equipment Management Custody Codes

UCSB Equipment Management custody codes are composed of three elements:

1. a one-digit location code – 8 for all UCSB custody codes (except, in the rare case of an Office of the President program administered at the Santa Barbara campus, where the code is Q)

2. a four-digit department custody code – most departments have one code; large research departments generally have two codes, one for 19900/University funds and a second for extramural funds, and several large administrative departments have multiple codes for their separate functional units

3. a custody subcode – either 00 (for 19900 and similar type funds), 19 (for self-supporting units) or a five-digit fund number (for extramural awards)
   

When Equipment Management uses the term “custody code” in an email correspondence, especially in reference to a Physical Inventory (EQ920) or Statistical Sampling, it is referring to the four-digit department custody code.
